Cyprus - The Paradise Island for Golfers ?
Cyprus is a fast growing golfing destination, with several new courses in the pipeline to add to the four (three in the south, one in the north) currently open.
Undoubtedly the best course on the island is the championship layout at
Aphrodite Hills. This Cabell Robinson designed course opened in 2002 and has been wowing everybody who has been lucky enough to tee up there ever since. The rollercoaster of a layout has it all, pot bunkers, big rolling greens, spectacular carries and stunning Mediterranean views. This amazing course coupled with the Island's year round sunshine make for a superb golfing destination.
Everything about Aphrodite Hills is five star and that includes the onsite Intercontinental Aphrodite Hills Resort Hotel, the impressive clubhouse and great practice facilities.
This stunning golf resort is a first in Cyprus and has developed a fine reputation for quality and service. Designed in a village style with low rise buildings and set right on the golf course, it is a relaxing and tranquil place to spend a golfing holiday.
The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated in Cypriot style with traditional ceramics, wooden furniture and linen. Some rooms have their own private pools and the hotel buildings surround the gardens and large, cascading pool. The village design also includes a ‘plaza' where you will find shops, bars and restaurants offering a variety of cuisine to suit all tastes.
Everything you need is here including a superb spa, and the hotel's own private beach. Lively Paphos is just 20 minutes by car and you are bound to find plenty to entertain you.
Not too far away you'll find
Secret Valley, which lives up to its name though it is only 20km from Paphos. This layout boasts ultra-slick greens and breathtaking mountain backdrops.
The third course on the south of the Island is
Minthis Hills (formerly Tsada). Winding it's way through olive groves and fruit orchards, probably the least impressive of the courses but worth a visit.
Flying into Paphos or Larnaca is straightforward from the UK and the road system in Cyprus is good. Plus, they drive on the left hand side of the road, making Cyprus feel like a home from home (except of course the glorious sunshine and stunning scenery that you will experience!).
If you would rather stay in Paphos itself there are plenty of good quality hotels to choose from although few match up to the standards and facilities available at the Intercontinental Aphrodite Hills Resort Hotel.
